Buying a toilet sounds simple, but there are more decisions than you might expect. This guide covers the key factors that affect comfort, performance, and fit in your bathroom.
The most common and affordable option. The tank and bowl are separate pieces bolted together during installation. Two-piece toilets are easier to transport and install, and replacement parts are widely available.
The tank and bowl are fused into a single unit. One-piece toilets have a sleeker, more modern appearance and are easier to clean since there is no seam. They typically cost more and are heavier to move into position.
The bowl mounts directly to the wall with the tank concealed behind the wall in a carrier frame. Wall-hung toilets create a minimalist look, make floor cleaning effortless, and allow you to set the bowl height to your preference.
The rough-in is the distance from the finished wall to the center of the floor drain. Most homes have a 12-inch rough-in. Older homes may have 10-inch or 14-inch rough-ins. Measure before you buy — a toilet designed for 12 inches will not fit properly on a 10-inch rough-in.
Standard height toilets are about 15 inches from floor to seat top. Comfort height toilets are 17-19 inches, making it easier to sit down and stand up. Comfort height is ADA-compliant and preferred by taller adults.
Modern toilets use 1.28 GPF (gallons per flush) or less to meet WaterSense standards. Look for strong flush ratings — KOHLER AquaPiston and Delta TorboFlush are known for effective performance with less water.
We stock toilets from KOHLER, Delta, American Standard, and Sterling. As an authorized dealer, every toilet includes the full manufacturer warranty.
