A medicine cabinet provides essential bathroom storage while keeping everyday items within arm's reach. Modern medicine cabinets go far beyond basic mirrored boxes — they include integrated lighting, outlets, defogging, and premium materials. Here's how to choose the right one.
Built into the wall cavity between studs. Sits flush with the wall surface for a clean, built-in look. Requires cutting into the wall — best done during construction or renovation. Standard stud spacing is 16" on center, which limits width to about 14" for single-bay units. Wider cabinets may require stud modification.
Mounts directly to the wall surface. Easier to install (no wall cutting), but projects 4-6" from the wall. Better for situations where wall cutting isn't practical — rental properties, concrete/tile walls, or retrofit installations.
Partially recessed into the wall. Offers a compromise — less wall depth needed than fully recessed, less projection than surface-mount. Some Robern models offer this flexibility.
| Brand | Known For | Price Range |

| KOHLER | Wide selection, Verdera series, good mid-range options, aluminum construction | $200-$1,200 |
| Glacier Bay / Home Depot | Budget-friendly, basic function, limited features | $50-$200 |
For a primary bathroom, a Robern recessed cabinet with integrated LED lighting eliminates the need for separate vanity lights and provides the cleanest look. For a secondary bath or powder room, a KOHLER Verdera surface-mount cabinet delivers excellent value. We carry the full Robern and KOHLER lines and can help you find the right fit for your space.
